Chase British Airways 100k Offer – Can I Match?

The image shows a British Airways airplane parked at an airport gate. The aircraft is a large passenger jet, and it is connected to the terminal by a jet bridge. Ground service vehicles and equipment are positioned around the plane, and there are workers attending to various tasks. The sky above is overcast with dark, heavy clouds, suggesting an impending storm or recent rain. The airport terminal building is visible in the background.

As of April 19th, Chase is offering an increased signup bonus for the co-branded Chase British Airways Visa!

Why is the Chase Visa worth a signup?

Avios are a valuable points currency. And the Chase British Airways Visa provides a great opportunity to fast track your Avios earning!

Remember, British Airways mileage program is distance based, making Avios perfect short haul flights on BA or on fellow OneWorld Member Airlines, like American Airlines!

For example, check out this one way itinerary from Miami to St. Kitts:

The image is a screenshot of a flight booking summary. It shows a one-way flight from Miami (MIA) to Saint Kitts (SKB) on Friday, January 26. The flight departs at 5:54 PM and arrives at 9:57 PM, with a duration of 3 hours and 3 minutes. The flight is operated by American Airlines, flight number 1235, in Economy Class on an Airbus A319 aircraft. The amenities listed include in-seat and USB power, streaming to your device, and no Wi-Fi. The price of the flight is $492, highlighted in a red box. There is also a blue button to book, track, or share the flight, and a note about additional bag fees.

While the paid one-way fare is a whopping $492, an Avios redemption is much more appealing…

The image is a screenshot of a journey summary for a flight booking. It shows the details of the outbound flight, which departs at 17:54 on 26 January and arrives at 21:57 on the same day. The flight is from MA to SJB. The inbound section indicates that a one-way journey has been selected. The total price for the journey, including all taxes, fees, and carrier charges, is 10,000 Avios plus $15.60. There is also a link for "More pricing options" and a note stating that the exact cost will be shown after clicking "Continue."

Just 10,000 Avois plus $15.60 in taxes and fees! That’s just 1/10th of the current 100k signup and $492 that can stay in your wallet!

I signed up under the old signup structure where the most Avios I could earn topped out at 75k. If I thought the Chase British Airways was worth a signup at 75k, then I definitely think it is worth a signup at 100k!

Which brings me to my next point…

Matching to 100k?

I applied for the Chase British Airways back on April 5th, and at the time, the bonus looked a little something like this:

Earn 50,000 bonus Avios after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Plus earn an additional 25,000 bonus Avios after you spend $10,000 on purchases within your first year of account opening.

My bonus tops out at 75k since it is missing that last 25k bonus tier with the extra $10k in spend.

Both the 75k offer and the 100k offer come with a very high spending threshold, but since I’m remodeling my house I have more than enough spend on the horizon to meet either $10k or $20k in spend.

Often in times like this, where a card issuer ups the bonus offering shortly (within a couple months) after your application, you can request the card issuer show a bit of good faith and up your bonus to the best available. It isn’t a sure thing, but I have frequently used this tactic successfully to bump up into higher bonuses!

Alt text: A screenshot of a secure message center interface displaying a message. The message is from Chase Card Services, dated 04-24-2017, and addressed to Derek. The subject of the message is "Re: Rewards Inquiry." The message informs Derek that his account is not eligible for the 5% offer on groceries, gas, and drugstore purchases. It explains the terms and conditions of the offer and provides information on how to earn rewards. The interface includes navigation options on the left side, such as "Inbox," "Sent Messages," and "Account Services."

Not this time though… Despite my secure message request and despite the time between application and bonus increase being quite short (just two weeks!), Chase would not honor the higher bonus, leaving me with a ceiling of 75k Avios.

Oh well I guess! I would have loved the opportunity to earn an extra 25k, but I guess that leaves me a $10k to spend on another card… perhaps for another introductory signup bonus!?

Final Thought –

Chase is offering an increased signup bonus for the co-branded Chase British Airways Visa! If you have been considering a sign up or just happen to have a bunch of spending to do over the course of the next year, now is the time to pull the trigger!

Will you make a move on the Chase British Airways Card and the 100k Avios that come with it? Any recent applicants able to match to the new 100k offer?

Happy Travels!

  1. I messaged Chase about matching Iberia promo, they told me as soon as I got 20K spend to email them again and they’ll match me to it.
