I Applied for the Chase Marriott Rewards Card And Why You Should Too!
When I start planning a trip I focus on two things – airfare and hotels – since these are normally the two largest expenses and the easiest for which to redeem points and miles. My advice is to build your point/mile balances in both airline and hotel programs, so that you can ensure that you have the two most expensive aspects of travel covered. Think of it as the “1, 2 punch” to knockout travel costs!
Even though that punch metaphor was a bit weak, the current sign-up bonus for the Chase Marriott Rewards Credit Card is as strong as ever, weighing in (boxing metaphor #2) at 80,000 Marriott Rewards points (plus an additional 7,500 for adding an authorized user)! The total bonus amount of 87,500 is yours after meeting the $3,000 in minimum spend in 3 months! This is the perfect offer for you if you are looking to boost your points in the Marriott Rewards program.
Keep in mind that I am not compensated for this post, but in addition to the public offer link above, here is my referral link if you want to help me receive an extra bonus of 10,000 Marriott points!
I, myself, took advantage of this offer just last week (and by myself, I mean that my wife applied and was approved – but we are a points and miles team so what’s the difference, right!?).
Once earned, the points can be redeemed at most Marriott Properties around the world – including the following brands (among others):
- Marriott
- JW Marriott
- Autograph Collection
- Ritz Carlton
- Renaissance Hotels
- Gaylord Hotels
- AC Hotels
- Edition Hotels
- Springhill Suites
- Fairfield Inn & Suites
- Courtyard
- Residence Inn
My favorite redemptions for Marriott Rewards Points (and all hotel points in general) are for high value hotels like JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton Brand Hotels!
Make sure to include your Marriott Rewards number or your Ritz Carlton Rewards number (either will work since the programs are tied to each other) on the application in order to have the sign-up bonus points load into your existing Rewards account. No account? Then just leave blank and they will assign you a new rewards account number.
Now, for some more info about the card itself:
- As mentioned above, earn 80,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first 3 months, then earn 7,500 bonus points when you add the first authorized user and make a purchase in the first 3 months from account opening.
- You will earn 5 points per dollar spent at Marriott Properties, 2 points on airline tickets and restaurants, and 1 point on everything else
- There is an $85 annual fee (not waived the first year) – but this is essentially offset by fact that you also receive an annual free night stay in a category 1-5 hotel each year after your account anniversary.
Like all Chase Credit cards, this bonus is not available if you have received the bonus in the last 24 months.
I’m not sure what/where my wife and I will redeem the points for (assuming she meets minimum spend!), but hopefully I will have a plan in place to be able to redeem them for something special as soon as those points hit her account!
What will you do with the Marriott Rewards Points earned from your sign-up bonus?
Keep in mind that the points needed for redemption have increased at a number of Marriott Hotels recently, so remember my motto “EARN ‘EM and BURN ‘EM”!
As always, e-mail me with any questions or comments regarding this card offer or any other questions you might have! If you need some help redeeming then head over to AYP Travel Consulting Services and email me at accountingyourpoints.com

Got this card recently as well and am a big fan of it. Bonus is great and as an additional bonus the card is METAL, seems minor but has a cool feel to it that makes the big bonus seem even nicer 🙂 .
Couldn’t agree with you more! Although it send a bit silly, my feelings toward a credit card are definitely influenced by the appearance of the card!
