Hotel Review – Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme

Guest Writer Mallory (my wife & Editor-in-Chief) is in charge of AYP today as she gives her full detailed hotel review of the Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme! Note – the opinions displayed in this article are our own and we did not receive any compensation related to this writing.

At the beginning of February, after taking a month off from any type of travel, Derek asked me if I would be interested in taking a trip to Paris over Valentine’s Day weekend (which happened to be 5 days before my birthday). The type-A scheduler personality that I am freaked out a bit at the thought of a European trip with just 2 weeks to plan. But, I realized a FREE trip to Paris doesn’t come around every day, and I would likely regret NOT taking this opportunity more than I would taking the trip.

Booking- For our trip, we knew that we had some Hyatt Free Night Certificates earned through my Chase Hyatt card sign-up bonus, so we started there.

Derek read previously of other travelers experiences redeeming these same type of certificates at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome and that the property was one of the premier luxury properties in Paris. As soon as I heard that, I logged onto my Hyatt Gold Passport account, searched our dates in February. Unfortunately, I received the message that the property was booked and redeeming our certificates was not an option. Luckily, I decided to check one more time the following morning and much to my delight I found availability and booked the nights right through the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome site! 

Getting There/Location – After arriving at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, we decided to take an Uber (~€45) to the hotel rather than experience the metro with our 3 pieces of luggage. The Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme is in the heart of Paris, located just north of the Seine River (only a few blocks from the Louvre museum). With traffic on a Friday morning, the ride took about 40 minutes. While this wasn’t necessarily short, the concierge at the hotel advised us that the metro wouldn’t save us much time.

Hotel Entrance/Check-In – Our Uber driver accidentally drove past the hotel when trying to locate it – the entrance is hardly ostentatious and constitutes just a single door. However, extravagance appeared as soon as our bags were taken out of our hands and we walked past the quaint lobby to the check-in desk.  Although we arrived a few hours earlier than our guaranteed check-in time, our room was made available to us after we were given a short tour of the property. Our Valentine’s Day Weekend trip also happened to be a week before my birthday, so we were greeted with a bottle of champagne in our Deluxe room. Nice touch, Park Hyatt!

 

The Room – As we were celebrating a special occasion, we were kindly upgraded to a deluxe room. Our Deluxe room was extremely spacious, and I was certainly impressed by the large walk-in closet and grand bathroom that featured heated floors (and, ahem, a heated toilet seat!). The bathroom featured a shower and a large tub – naturally, I treated myself to daily baths. All of the fixtures in the bathroom were gold-brushed rather than chrome – I really liked this part of the bathroom design. The view from our room window was of the hotel courtyard. I would have preferred a view of Paris, but the courtyard was lovely. The king size bed seemed larger than a king – I swear I stuck my legs out to the side in the middle of the night and could not locate my husband’s body.

 

Amenities – The room was re-stocked with Nespresso pods to use in the Nespresso machine, as well as Evian water each day, and the bathroom toiletries (made by Blaise Mautin, a Parisian “parfumeur”) were great. In-room wifi was included with my Platinum status, although we rarely were in the room to use it.

Fitness Center – We didn’t work out in the fitness center during our stay (we prefer to explore cities by running on foot), but we popped in one morning to check it out. It was a pretty basic fitness center that featured a handful of cardio machines and free weights.

 

Dining – While the hotel was booked using certificates earned in conjunction with my Hyatt Platinum status (which is a perk of being a Chase Hyatt cardholder), my husband mentioned his Diamond status and we were kindly informed that the €50 per person “American” Breakfast buffet would be included in our stay for both of us. We happily made our way down each morning to enjoy a plethora of coffee, fruit, cheeses, freshly baked breads, smoked salmon, cereals and eggs made to order. My egg-white omelet with Serrano ham was delicious, and my husband enjoyed his made-to-order eggs as well. Breakfast was the only meal we enjoyed at the hotel, as we typically opt to dine in local restaurants when we travel.

Overall Impression – The Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme, while not my favorite Park Hyatt (I was more impressed by  Park Hyatt’s Vienna property), is a wonderful luxury hotel that I would be happy to visit again in the future. Since it is quite expensive , I’d likely only stay if I was able to pay for it with Hyatt free night certificates, as my pockets aren’t that deep!
