An American Airlines jet is shown in mid-flight against a cloudy sky. The aircraft has the airline's logo and name on the fuselage, and the tail is painted with the company's distinctive red, white, and blue stripes. The landing gear is partially retracted.

So you’re looking to boost your AAdvantage balance? And you are looking to do so in the most efficient and effective manner?

The image shows an American Airlines airplane in flight. The aircraft is white with the American Airlines logo and branding on its fuselage. The tail features the airline's distinctive red, white, and blue stripes. The plane appears to be a large commercial jet.

Say no more, you have come to the right place…

Cue the increased AAdvantage mile credit card offers from our friends at Citi and Barclaycard!

The Citi Offers:

Alt text: A promotional image for a credit card offer. The background features a scenic view of a canyon at sunset with two people standing on a cliff. The text reads "EARN 60,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending $1,000 within the first 3 months of account opening." There is a green button labeled "Learn More" and an image of a credit card at the bottom.

Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard – 60,000 AAdvantage miles after $3K in purchases within the first 3 months. Annual fee of $95 (waived year 1).

In addition, you’ll earn 10% of your redeemed AAdvantage miles back — up to 10,000 AAdvantage miles each calendar year.

Other card benefits include:

First checked bag is free on domestic American Airlines itineraries for you and up to four companions traveling with you on the same reservation

Preferred boarding on American Airlines flights

No Foreign Transaction Fees on purchases

Receive 25% savings on in-flight food and beverage purchases when you using your card

2x AAdvantage miles on eligible American Airlines purchases

10% of your redeemed AAdvantage miles back — up to 10,000 AAdvantage miles each calendar year

I don’t really like any of these card for every spend so it typically stays at home in a drawer. The real benefits are fat sign-up bonuses, annual 10% rebate on AAdvantage miles redeemed and then the free checked bag and priority boarding benefits! (The benefits are quite similar on all these cards, so we won’t detail them all out again…)

RUNNING BONUS TOTAL = 60,000 AAdvantage Miles

A man is sitting on a boat in a canal with historic buildings in the background. The text on the left side of the image reads "EARN 60,000" with additional details about earning American Airlines AAdvantage miles. On the right side, there is an advertisement for a Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard, with a button that says "APPLY NOW."

CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard – 60,000 AAdvantage miles after $3K in purchases within the first 3 months. Annual fee of $95 (waived year 1).
Other card benefits match the personal version, and in addition you will earn 2x AAdvantage miles for every $1 spent on purchases at telecommunications, car rental merchants and at gas stations… which (IMO) is still really not enough to justify spending in those categories!
WARNING – Be careful here not to trip up the strict Citi 8/65 application rules (per Doctor of Credit):

#1 – You must wait 8 days after application before applying for another card, or you will be instantly denied.

#2 – No more than 2 Citi applications within 65 days, or you will be instantly denied.

RUNNING BONUS TOTAL = 120,000 AAdvantage Miles

Note: If you have opened or closed the personal version in the last 24 months, you are not eligible for the personal sign-up bonus (you can still earn the business bonus). Similarly, if you have opened or closed the business version, you are not eligible to earn the sign-up bonus on the business version (you can still earn the personal bonus).

The Barcalycard Offers:

A new card offering from Barclaycard with a bonus not as high as it’s competition (in that of the CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard), but a nice offer considering the lack of minimum spend requirement!

  1. “So your looking to boost your AAdvantage balance…” It”s “you’really looking.” Why can’t people learn simple grammar any longer?
