American Airlines is sending out targeted complimentary status offers! I was targeted myself with FREE AA Platinum Status! There I was yesterday, just minding my own business, when BAM! American Airlines hit me with some next level generosity! No purchase and no flying necessary – just a good ol’ fashioned freebie!

The Benefits:
You’re eligible for all the perks of Platinum status, including:
- 8 miles/U.S. dollar (60% bonus)
- Complimentary upgrades on domestic flights 500 miles or less, confirmed as early as 48-hours prior to departure
- Complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra and Preferred seats
- 2 free checked bags
- oneworld Sapphire status on partner airlines – meaning access to Business Class lounges when flying internationally
Oh! And in addition to all of the above – I will also receive 20 500-mile upgrades! Though I don’t see them in my account just yet…
Keep the Status:
In order to maintain my complimentary Platinum status, some flying is going to be required:
To extend your elite benefits through January 31, 2018, earn 12,500 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and $2,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) on American and other airlines for travel between the date you register and May 26, 2017.*
Still, very generous, as you can see what the status typically requires in the form of EQMs and EQDs!
I will see if I can make it happen, though if my current AA travel pattern continues, it is going to be pretty tough to get there and tough to achieve any value…
If you are looking for that longer term status without they flying, you can always status match to other competitor frequent flyer programs – like Alaska MVP Gold!
